Type a business. See whether Palm Desert allows it in each commercial and industrial zone, and which permit it needs.
Matches are our reading of the code's definitions. How the city classifies a specific business is the city's call, so confirm with the Planning Division before you sign a lease or buy a property.
No use permit is needed. You may still need a business license and building permits for any improvements.
The Zoning Administrator reviews the proposal, gives public notice, and can attach conditions. It can be sent to the Planning Commission or raised to a conditional use permit when parking, traffic, or other impacts call for it.
The Planning Commission holds a public hearing and can approve, approve with conditions, or deny. Decisions can be appealed to the City Council.
Uses that aren't in the table are also not permitted, unless the Planning Commission decides the use is similar to a listed one. That process is called a use determination.
Don't know a property's zone? Use the city's interactive zoning map. For the Service Industrial zone in depth, read our SI zoning guide.
Every use in Table 25.16-1 of the Palm Desert Municipal Code, across all six commercial and industrial districts. P is permitted, A needs an administrative use permit, C needs a conditional use permit, and N is not permitted.
